garlic and onion powder – These are made of dehydrated garlic and onion that is then ground into a powder. They offer concentrated flavor in a shelf stable form.

coarse salt – The texture of coarse salt is perfect for burgers. If you only have table or fine salt, it’s an even swap.

paprika – I like to use smoked paprika for burgers, but sweet paprika will be a different, but still delicious alternative.

ground black pepper – Black pepper adds a little kick as well as flavor to the burger patties.

ground cayenne pepper – I like to use cayenne for a little extra heat. You can also use a another chile powder.

Variations: If you have other favorite spices or herbs, such as basil or thyme, feel free to add them in. This is a good basic spice blend to start with.

We LOVE simple grilled hamburgers cooked on a charcoal grill. We use salt and pepper most times but I need to try and change up the spices we use. We buy our hamburger from a local locker plant. They have not pink slime, guarantee all the meat is raised in our county, and since we buy a side at a time it is cheaper than cheap hamburger at the store. There have been a few sales that were cheaper, but way less quality.

I love using paprika on my burgers-same spices I use minus the cayenne. I have been reaching fit the paprika more & more these past years. While at the spice store I hit to talking with the cashier-asked what her favorite spice was. Said mine was paprika & said to try it on burgers. Her face did a “why didn’t i think of that”. Thank you for all the great recipes & saving tips.
