Borough defender recovers in hospital after injury forces game to be abandoned (2024)

Eastbourne Borough defender Alex Finney was today awaiting X-ray results after a bad injury forced a match to be abandoned.

Finney suffered a knee injury during Borough’s game with Truro City, which wasstaged at Gloucester City’s ground.

The match was abandoned as the former Bolton, Aldershot and Ebbsfleet player received treatment on the pitch.

The score was 0-0 with 70 minutes played.

An eye witness told The Argus that Finney was pushed as he went up for a header and landed awkwardly, forcing a nasty displacement of the knee cap.

There were initial fears of head or neck injury as he remained on the turf.

A club tweet late late night reported: “Alex Finney is in a stable condition in hospital, awake, talking and laughing with staff. He’s awaiting results of x-rays and further tests."

The match was staged at Gloucester – 175 miles from Eastbourne and almost 200 from Truro - with the ‘home’ club still awaiting the opening of a new ground.

Both teams are battling to stay up in Vanarama National League south.
