FRESH HOME IS A PLACE AND A FEELING, ONE THAT’S UNEXPLAINABLE FOR THE LOUISVILLE NATIVE TO HAVE HER FIRST BRICK AND MORTAR DRAKE’S TREATS IN NORTON COMMONS, THE GOURMET BAKERY AND CAFE, IS ALSO THE THIRD BLACK OWNED BUSINESS HERE. I’VE TAKEN IT ALL IN LIKE I’M BREAKING HISTORY AND BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND AND WHAT COULD BE MORE BETTER FRESH IDENTIFIED A MARKET AND CLIENTELE IN NORTON COMMONS IN FRIDAY’S SOFT OPENING SAW SIGNATURE CUPCAKES ON DISPLAY, COFFEE IN HAND AND CONVERSATION AMONG CUSTOMERS. THIS IMAGE MAKES THE SELF-TAUGHT BAKER REFLECT ON THE THREE YEAR JOURNEY IT TOOK TO GET HERE. I FEEL LIKE I AM ACHIEVING GOALS BIGGER THAN I EVEN DREAMED OF, SO IT’S STILL LIKE A PINCH. ME IF IT’S REAL, BUT IT’S BEEN AMAZING AND I’M HONORED TO BE WELCOMED. BUSINESSES LIKE BLONDY’S AND JIM’S BISTRO, WHO ARE ALREADY ESTABLISHED HERE AT NORTON COMMONS, ARE EXCITED TO WELCOME DRAKE’S TREATS TO THE BUSTLING COMMUNITY. OVERJOYED TO HAVE A NEW NEIGHBOR, BLONDIES AND JIM’S OWNER, TANYA GARZILLO, ALREADY HAS JOINT PLANS FOR THE SOUTHERN STYLE RESTAURANT AND THE SWEET SHOP. HER BUSINESS MINDSET IS COLLABORATION OVER COMPETITION TO HELP EACH OTHER GROW. SO SHE’S GOING TO ACTUALLY BRING SOME TREATS IN HERE THAT WE’RE GOING TO BE OFFERING TO OUR CUSTOMERS, BECAUSE I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHO SHE IS AND THAT SHE HAS DELICIOUS, UH, DESSERTS HERE. AND THOUGH THE STORES ROOTS ARE PLANTED IN PROSPECT, A FOOD TRUCK WILL SOON HIT THE ROADS OF KENTUCKY. For Ter'Dricka Fresh, home is a place and a feeling, one that’s unexplainable for the Louisville native who now has her first brick-and-mortar, Drick's Treats, in Norton Commons.The gourmet bakery and cafe is also the third Black and women-owned business in that area of Prospect.“I've taken it all in. Like, I'm breaking history in Black History Month. What could be better?” Fresh said.Fresh says the market and clientele in Norton Commons were the deciding factors for her store’s location.Friday's soft opening saw signature cupcakes on display, coffee in hand, and conversation among customers.
