33 Healthy Mason Jar Salads | Salad in a Jar Recipes (2024)

Have you ever seen that Pinterest quote from comedian Adam Norwest? It goes like this, “My wife is addicted toPinterest. If you don’t know what Pinterest is… it’s where your wife stares at the computer for 8 hours and then you eat salads out ofmason jars.” lol It cracks me up every time I read it. AndI actually think it’s pretty much exactly what my husband would say if he had to describe Pinterest!

If you were going to try out JUST ONE THING from Pinterest it should definitelybe a mason jar salad.I’m not usually a sucker for gimmicks, but I have to admit, I’ve totally fallen in love with mason jar salads! I’ve made them a few times, and my absolute favourite part is that since you’re making them in a mason jar and sealing them with the mason jar lid, you can actually make a bunchof them and storethem in your fridge for days!

I went on a mason jar salad binge last year. I made them once a week for a few weeks and it was amazing! I used old lids when I made mine, but they still managed to seal well and they lasted 5 days in the fridge with no problems. The lettuce was still crisp. Nothing was soggy. And best of all, when I wanted a side dish to go with our dinners those weeks, all I had to do was shake the jar, and pour it into a serving bowl. Easy peasy and mega healthy! I ate a lot of salad lunches those weeks too. (I should really do that again…)

I love salads, but I hate the chopping. Allthat chopping. Oh man. I cringe when my kids or husband ask for a salad with dinner, because it just seems to take so much time. But the great thing about mason jar salads is that you can prep all the ingredients once, and make enough to last for 5 days, maybe even longer. (We ate ours before then, so we didn’t get to find out if they lasted longer…) So when you need an easy lunch or side dish, it’s fresh and ready to go!

If you’ve never made a mason jar salad before, then I definitely recommend checking out this Salad in a Jar 101post from Back to Her Roots. It’s the article I used when I started making mason jar salads and it will tell you everything you need to know about how to keep your salads fresh and how to separate your ingredients.

You can use any of these recipes, or you can follow the basics and make up your own! What I loved was that it made me try adventurous flavour and veggie combinations. From guacamole salad to taco salad to egg salad, you can make your life easier by making your saladsahead and putting them in a mason jar!

(Not that I want you to be a crowd follower in the mason jar salad craze, but this time it’s totally worth it!)
